hey guys, im looking to buy a new keyboard
my desk space is pretty limited infact my current keyboard totaly overlaps my mouse pad and doesnt give me much space
so im looking for a compact keyboard so no numpad and whatever else i can get away with not having that would make it smaller

people tell me i should get a mech keyboard, im currently using rubber dome wich i like because its quiet when im typing (im a pretty heavy handed typer) but i know theres several different kinds of switches so wich ones would be the quitest? some mech keyboards ive heard have pretty loud metalic clunk sounds going on

one last thing, i would like the keyboard to be backlit because i usualy have the lights off and i cant type if i cant see the keys lol
i would like the backlight to be red if possible

Sidewinder X5 has a removable numpad section, so gives you flexibility.

Mind you, I think that it's probably wider than really compact keyboards even without the numpad attached.

It's a lovely keyboard too, and well backlit - but not mechanical.

thanks a lot ill check that out :)

Look for TKL keyboards (ten keys less).

Cooler Master do some nice ones, or the Ducky Shjine TKL, red backlit, choice of cherry switches.. Not sure if they are easily available, this place does sell Ducky, but I'm on the phone, so can't easily check..

Yeah, you'd want a TKL.

The CM Storm Quickfire is TKL, as well as being backlit. May be what you're after.

alright so had a look at the quickfire TK and some ducky shine keyboards so far i like the quickfire the best
it has the section where the arrow keys would be taken away but still has a numpad i dont use the numpad for anything and i dont use the arrow keys for anything is there any that chop both of those off or is the quickfire the best im gonna get?

the quickfire comes with a choice of blue, red and brown switches wich ones are the best for quietness?

Its the Sidewinder x6, the x5 is a mouse.

You will be lucky to find any sidewinder x6s these days.

thanks for your help guys i have found the perfect keyboard, the mad catz strike 5
mad catz isnt usualy something i avoid and it isnt mechanical but the sections of the keyboard that have the arrows keys and the numpad can both be be removed so its perfect for my small desk and its backlit
