Hi,

I'm a complete novice to cameras, but I like the advanced functionality you can get with a DSLR. However I don't like the bulkiness of one, so it seems like Compact System cameras is the way to go.

I plan to use the camera for a variety of things, so nothing specific in that regard. I am looking for a good 'all-rounder', with excellent image quality at various light levels, and as much of the advanced functionality you could get with a DSLR as possible.

My budget is up to £500.

Possible candidates so far:
  • Sony NEX5RKW (£418)
  • Nikon COOLPIX P330 (£284)
  • Sony Cybershot RX100 (£449)

Appreciate any recommendations.

I ve got a G12 love it

Have you looked at the Ricoh GR APS-C compact?

It has a fixed 28MM/F2.8 lens but has the same 16MP APS-C sensor found in many Nikon,Pentax and Sony dSLR and mirrorless cameras. The lens is meant to be very sharp and it costs £600.
