I bought myself a nice shiny Nikon D40x a few days ago and I'm having great fun playing around with it, but one thing I'm missing is a tripod.

I need to find one which is as compact and light as possible, whilst still being able to securely support this camera. Money isnt too much of an objective at this moment.

So can anyone recommend something for me ?

I have been lookign at the manfroto modo range. jsut so i am able to fasten it to my lowepro back pack and take it around on my bike without breaking a sweat.

theyre around £50 and really compact when folded. they come with a ball joint head and you can reverse the 'shaft'? to hang your camera upside down. and the legs have 3 different possitions from completly flat, upwards.

not sure exactly how sturdy they are int he real world. but nearly every camera shop in the country has them in to try out and have a look at in the flesh.

if money is no object though there may be a better option.

Hmmm the modo mini one is a bit lighter Velbon one.

It doesnt need to do anything fancy really, just be small, light and hold an slr camera still.

Was considering getting a gorrilla pod as well, as they do one for SLR cameras as well now.

GORILLA POD

I have the SLR Gorilla - not used it with mine tbh
but have used it a fair few times with my p+s.

For the money its really handy just to keep in a bag etc :)

GORILLA POD

Would that (the non-SLR one) fit on a Nikon Coolpix 7600?

Been playing with the camera more over the last couple of weeks, and been looking for a cheap, portable tripod that I can shove in my glove box in the car.
