Im pretty rubbish at RTS games in general, i normally spend loads of time trying to make fancy looking bases and not actually do the job properly :), however..

I would just like to say that i recently got this game, and im starting to value my troops a bit more!, Its great when they go up a few ranks. they simply kick ass when they have been promoted :D

Graphically this game is great, and the sound is great. I cant write reviews but ill give it a basic..

9/10 :D best game ive played in a long time, and its got great explosions and nice touches.

:)

Amazin game by far. Probly the best RTS and one of my best games.

^You find that in basically all war games, I think personally that its to do with developers not wanting to get into trouble or not wanting to offend.

In faces of war you can play as German, Allied, Soviet.

pimp mode;

if you want some really, really good WW2 RTS's you need to get Close Combat 3-5. okay, they are 2d like C&C etc, but they are by far the most realistic and best WW2 games i have ever played.

you can be either side, download new maps/campaigns mods etc. morale counts, experience is imperative, so is resource management.

ill try company of heroes and see how it compares!

^COH is by far the best RTS game. I am mainly an fps player tbh so I never really play RTS. But then I had a couple of RTS games and didn't really care for them tbh. So I bought COH and its an amazing game by far, graphics, physics, storyline, modes everything. GRADE A. Multiplayer is great, battles can last hours. Not only that its not the type of game you can get bored of tbh.

Heres some screenshots I took, alough they are Jpeg, reduced quality and screenshots aren't as close to how it is in gameplay. Water effects are 10/10.

Infact I'll just post them in the screenshot thread so check there in 5-10 mins.

okay

we're all wrong ive just found something which has made my week. Close combat 3 is being re-relased!!!

Close Combat: Cross of Iron

ZOMG its that good. i have played sooo sooo soo many hours LAN with my best mate on these CC games.

Played a bit more, im on the campaign where the road forks in the north, gonna spend all night on this one now.

i wanna capture every supply line and make these suckers pay :D

i'm on the 4th map in the campaign so far the one with the bridge to the east docks and it's very intense. i've mostly been laying down artillery fire on the motorised armor coming from ***** every 20 seconds or so, my ears are ringing! hehehe omg this game is sooooo good :) i've been playing about 30 hours so far (yes i'm slow) so even if this is the last map in the campaign i'm gonna play it through hard mode next then there's the skirmish mode with huuuuge maps to play yet, game of the year me thinks :D i really hope this game gets lots of addons, english/soviet? campaigns puuleeeese

Sounds cool, im geting this games for xmas.
Im a total RTS noob :o

Plonk it straight onto easy.

And from my noob perspective, ive just been on a map for ages. Where the road forks and you have to capture different supply lines etc. Make sure you defend the lines because i lost loads of mine as they got recaptured :(

had to turn it off for a bit. im getting stressed!

I used to be into real time strategy games but then for a long time I just played almost exclusively shooters. I have always been a fan of the command and conquer series but this game takes the biscuit. So well honed it makes you feel like your actually commanding troops on the battlefield. To be honest if Rome Total War can get the battles of 250BC- 100AD right then Company of Heroes can get the battles of 1939-1945 right. The only thing I can say is just be sure to have a ninja PC with 2GB of RAM. The extra 1GB makes such a difference.

i would get another gig of ram to help out, but its not worth it with my crappy pc :(

i really want an upgrade. wonder if dropping pc down the stairs qualifies for a new one :D

I just want a game to get battles in a Cold War era 1980s right now, then I can be happy too :D

I bought it from [Competitor removed - Minstadave] for £10. Still at that price. Download the demo but it is a good game. I like Company of Heroes better but stil fow is very good.

Well i completed the level where the road forks, that was a lot easier than i expected. I just built up a decent sized squad, and my shermans were fully promoted and blowing the crap out of anything in their path.

easy peasy :D

I know this is a little OT but loosely related so instead of making a new thread, I'll post in here.

This is just a heads-up really lads. It's nothing major, just helpful to people with little HDD space. I just noticed how large the save game files are, they're 13mb each. Small you might say. Indeed, but if you didn't know this and make multiple saves like I did, you might accumulate 3gbs worth of save games like I did!
