On reccomendation from this forums and a LOT of very high reviews i went out and got a copy of CoH GOTY edition and Opposing Forces but icant install it correctly.

the disc itself installs fine but when i start it (wether my pc is on or offline) it tells me i need an update of 140ish mb, thats fine i download and install it then it tells me i need to download another update for 114mb, so i download that and while installing it crashes and then the game wont start.

i have no intention of playing this online...yet, so why do i have to go through this, if i start the game with my pc offline it just says media not recognised and wont let me start the game.

so far ive installed + patched it and uninstalled it 4 times and the same has happened each time.

cheers

Gary

Edit: if it helps its a AMD Phenom 8750 with 8800GT and vista 64bit home premium

Edit2: its GOTY edition not Gold

sounds very odd. When your connected to the internet company of heroes requires you to update it even if you dont wanna play online. Does it give any error when the patch installer crashes?

I cant reallly suggest anything that could help but maybe have a browse at the company of heroes forums, and maybe post something in there about the problem, they a very helpful bunch over there.

Theres a link for ya :)

i think im sorted ive just gone to support.thq and theres a big section on patching tha game.... and ive been following the instruction that came with it so its opposing fronts i need to patch up and both games should then work fine.

ill update in an hour or so when ive got it done.... again

The patching does suck for this game, that's why I ended up getting the Steam version. It's well worth the hassel though so stick with it. :)

yeah Company Of Heroes is the only RTS game that actually kept me intrested in the campaign. And the multiplayer is awsome extremly fun :). Well worth playing.

Ok i give up,

ive downloaded the patches from THQ as instructed by THQ and all i get is EN_XXXX_XXXX.exe has stopped working, the annoying thing is its not the same patch each time it varies, i got to the last patch and it crashed and that annoyed the **** out of me as i was so close, i really wanna get on this game but its too much messing about for any one game.

/Rant

the annoying thing is this is the game i want to play the most out of all my games

Try installing Opposing Fronts on it's own, then patching. A fully patched Opposing Fronts has all the files to play the original title (SP and MP), so you'll just need to link the serial number to the same account to play both.

Where are you downloading the patches from as well? In game or off a site?

its is OF that im installing as per instructions in the box, im currently in the process of trying just CoH itself, ive backed up all files prior to patching so if one corrupts hopefully ill be able to repair it.

OK that didnt work, im off to worknow so i may give it another go tomorrow if anyone has any help in the meantime it would be much appriciated.... im also very tempted by steam... do these need patching????

This isn't actualy totally correct, the sound files for the missing armies (the armies on the other cd) will not be installed.. you will need to copy these manually off the dvd

If you have a clean coh install download the patches off the web, if possible use some download tools to ensure you get the file without any corruption (usually not possible if downloading from filefront or similar sites). I too almost had to give the game up a couple of patches ago due to reinstalling my pc and not being able to repatch.. stick with it ull get there in the end

As far as I can remember, you are supposed to install CoH first, but don't patch. Then install CoH:OF, you may have trouble getting the computer to read this as an install disc rather than a run disc for the CoH, so you may need to force it to install with "Add & Remove Programs". Then patch.

I had the same problems. I could only get OF working after numerous attempts. Bit of a pain really, not my sort of game, only played it for an hour ! It appeared to me that Vista couldn't see where the game was installed.

i sorted it, thanks to a lot of reading from the link from Jongo all i had to do was delete the cache file from in my documents for the game and it then tried to run from the disk which in turn verified the disk so now i can play... aslong as the pc is offline and i havent tried patching it... yet

thanks for all your help guys hopefully it will be as good as im hoping
