I got this game with my 8800gt. Never been into this kind of game really, but after reading a couple of reviews, i thought i would give it a go.
That is when the problems started.
I have 2 optical drives in the IDE channel of my mobo. One is an LG DVD writer, and one is a Sony DVD rom.
If i try to install the game from the writer, it does about 7% then quits telling me it cannot read the files on the DVD. The files may be corrupt or my drive may be faulty etc...
If i try to install from the Sony, it takes nearly 30 minutes to get to 5%, at which point i gave in.
I have a dual boot XP and have tried it on both installations without success.
I seem to have no other issues with the drives during normal use even though its a new build. Choas Theory installed fine, which i know can be a PITA. Did not bother with Alcohol on the new build, so no conflicts with virtual drives etc. On my old system, faults like this were usually caused by DMA being set to PIO and the like. I am right in thinking DMA is default on the P35 boards?
Is this just a faulty disc? Am I looking for non existent system fault?
TBH, i have never had a faulty pressed disc.
I would try the disc at work, but non of the machines pass the system test
