Compaq CQ61 won't power on

Hi all,

I have a Compaq presario CQ61 which won't power on. I've had the laptop awhile now, and it's doesn't really get much use. It used to struggle powering on before but if I pulled the battery out and put it back in again it would turn on.

I've tried the ram, pulled the CMOS out and held the power button but nothing's working.

Does anyone else have any possible solutions to try please?
Or does anyone know if this Is common fault and it's simply motherboard failure?

My brothers did this so I got a power brick of ebay for £5 and that fixed it.

Tried this, I have a multi charger so I tried that before anything else

Not sure if this trick is still used but with the mains removed and battery removed, hold the power button down for a min, refit batt/mains and see what happens

EDIT: oh, think you've done this with the holding the power button comment
