Ok,
My girlfriends Compaq laptop keeps randomly rebooting itself when its in windows. I can't seem to work out whats causing it, as it seems to randomly do it.
It doesnt seem to be heat related, as sometimes it will be in for 2 minutes, reboot itself, and then stay on for 30-40 minutes.
Interestingly the hard drive seems to be thrashing away constantly.... I checked the running processes and nothing seems to be wrong.
Incase it was a dodgy windows install I tried plonking in ubuntu (can't find the windows xp disc) but it won't boot (keeps complaining about IO errors)
I've tried doing the memcheck which comes on the ubuntu disc but it comes up clean.
Is there anything on the any sort of boot disc that people could recommend I check for any hardware failures before I resort to scrubbing windows xp ?
