Hi,

I have a compaq presario v6000 laptop and have lost the mainscharger...

Can someone tell me what type of charger I need please?

thanks

update..

basically there is no power to the laptop..

these laptops have a round purple light come on when you plug the mains charger in the light appears around the hole...so when I plug the charger in it does light up but other then that there is no sign of life, no cd rom led lights nothing...

Therefore I think its a faulty power cable..

what do you think?

Its like a dead mobo, the led light on mobo will turn on the cpu fan may also spin even though the mobo is dead...similarly I think if a new power lead does not fix it then it most certainly has to be the mainboard...

again please advise thoughts...

im familiar with these, if your getting the blue led to light up around the dc socket i would presume the power supply is giving power, the dc socket is on a small circuit board connected to the mainboard via a cable. so it could be either the little pcb or the mainboard, are you getting a charge light at all?

a charge light? where on the black square on the mains lead??? as there is no led on the black square on the mains lead...

there is no sign of power its dead as a doormat...

i have read on the net the PCB is a common error on these models but I am worried if it is the mb then what???

do you think it *** be the power lead? or more the PCB??

thanks for your help so far...

there are no lights anywhere apart from the dc socket...

could you safely suggest its not the power lead? or PCB?

what makes you say its the MB?

fairly easy, with a bit of patience, all the screws out the base including the 2 nut type screws in the wifi panel, one under the hard drive, 3 under the cd lip, silver ones out the battery compartment, pull the strip cover up, keyboard out, disconnect from the mb and the touchpad cable, feed the wifi cables through, 4 screws for the screen, 3 silver ones on the top case ones in the cd housing ;) 1 at each back corner, disconnect the screen and pull the top case off, it will seem stuck but prize it from the front edge.
