yeh, im just looking and pricing up 2 computers, ive got my 2 but im a little unsure which i should get, they are both the same price, (i added accesories of my choice, because i want them, the 2 systems are exactly what i want, BUT i can only choose 1, i am not adding or taking off anything!)

ok the 2 systems are, bearing in mind, i am a complete gamer nooob :D.

System 1.

Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6850 Dual Core Processor(3.0GHz,4MB Cache,1333MHz)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
PCI-Express Mainboard - SLI nForce 680i SLI(C55XE)
4GB DDR2 667MHz Memory -( 4x 1GB )
500GB Serial ATA Hard Drive with 16MB Buffer
320MB nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS - Dual DVI, HDTV, TV-Out
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Sound Card

System 2

Intel® Core 2 Quad Q6600 Quad Core Processor(2.4GHz,8MB Cache,1066MHz)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Home Premium Edition
PCI-Express Mainboard - SLI nForce 680i SLI(C55XE)
4GB DDR2 667MHz Memory -( 4x 1GB )
750GB (1x 500GB + 1x 250GB) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 16MB Buffer
320MB nVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS - Dual DVI, HDTV, TV-Out
Creative Labs Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Gamer Sound Card

Same price and im picking one of them ? i allready know both of these systems will play Call of duty 4 all on high, and basically any game that it gets thrown. and if not on all high then very close, so as i said question is help me decide :) which would you pick....??

the reason ium leaning towards system 1 is because system 2, as far as i know with the Quad core isnt really worth getting yet, and vista is still having problems, so system 1 is winning by a way at *** minute but i would love your views and opinions..

Thanks ;)

i personally would get system 2, why pick some think which is same price when you can get better for the same price, plus you could also dual boot if you don't want vista!

edit; i am actually using vista, and i find it great

there both from the same place, both same set of computers, and as far as a phew people have said and previews, the Core™ 2 Duo E6850 is better than Q6600 Quad Core for gaming, and vista is still very unstable. so thats why im on system 1 still :(

I have been using Vista since May it runs fine and with SP1 due out soon things can only get better. I would go for system 2 also Quads may not be full implemented yet but they will be getting used more and more thus allowing a more future proof system. Also may i suggest looking at getting 2 300Gb hard drives and setting up a Raid0 it would offer better performance.

To get the full 4Gb of ram to work you will need a 64Bit OS, so you may aswell just go for 2Gb of really fast ram, or get Vista 64.

System 2!

Quad is the future & the Q6600 should OC well :)

Like mentioned, to take full advantage of 4GB you need a 64-bit version of either XP or Vista (MCE 2005 is XP Pro 32-bit). Also using Vista (Home Premium 32-bit) now for several months & highly recommend it ;)

If these are pre-built systems, I'd also check what case & PSU they use. Latter matters the most. Do NOT skimp on what feeds your £xxx components!

Ok, the 32 bit and 64 bit, What actually are these ! (and the 4gb is a free upgrade from 2 gig why say no ! :P).

i just dont get what they are...32 xp or 64 xp, any differences ! ? Coffuzzzzled i am!

apart from that, what about as i mentioned gaming wise, is the quad core good for gaming ?

basically Boils down to ''For Gaming'' :

Q6600 Quad Core 2.4ghz vs Intel® Core™ 2 Duo E6850 3.0ghz
And
Vista Home vs Xp Home

And yes this is from blah de blah (told off) Used them before and there great ! (am i allowed to say the website on here sorry if im not) only going thorugh them because there 1 of the only phew that do finances, its one of there computers, customized to my liking, only thing is theres limit to what you can customise which is a bummer...like with this i can only chose 4 gb of ram, No less

thanks :D

(and once again remember its for gaming :) )

8800GTS 320MB is way better not to mention not all games are SLi compatible :)

I'd visit the FAQ seeing that you've broken the rules before (sig) :(

Without getting technical: 64-bit can address 184GB of RAM while 32-bit only 4GB (if you have a 32-bit OS you only get 3.5GB). This means that not only can 64-bit architecture work with large amount of data its also faster. But its still emerging, so apart from the memory factor you won't see much difference if just gaming, surfing, etc* :)

EDIT: *also drivers for your components must be 64-bit so check to make sure your xyz part works. Software is ok since can 64-bit OS can emulate 32-bit - but double check!

PLEASEEEEE tell me what you think, as in is it a good machine, and again gaming wise, i really dont know but thats all i can afford, and as far as searching around goes that what ive come up with...and another quesion will it be future proof as i want it to last 3 years without having to make big changes !

Thanks !

{snip}and another quesion will it be future proof as i want it to last 3 years without having to make big changes !
Considering that screen, do they have the 640MB 8800GTS or ATI HD 2900 pro? Also, no P35 (Intel chipset) mobo? If they do, I'd get those then whole PC will last you 3+ years!

Rest looks good :)

no :( from your eyes can you see the 320mb 8800GTS lasting a couple of years playing newly releast games on Medium to High settings ?, smoothly, i think i can, from benchmarks ect, it plays everygame out on all maximum settings, Smoothly, even crysis and cod4, and i cant see much games being better than Crysis in graphical terms, in my eyes i look at crysis and cod4 as the new era of graphics, and now its a case of many other games stepping up into thoughs shoes, and this era would last a good 2-3 years,

dont you think ? :) might be me just woffling but thats how i look at it :P

(ooooh and bearing in mind i could get another 8800GTS in the future to SLI the beast ;) )

and another thing my computer i bought 4 years ago and it plays crysis, i havnt upgraded anything, its geforce 6200 graphics, 1gb of ddr400 ram, it allso plays CoD4, obviously all on low and not exactly the smoothest, so what im saying when i mean ''Will it last'' i mean as i mentioned up there, will it still play most games in High in a couple of years.. and yeeeeeers i know my current comp... is ''Couph coup and absollute couph'' :D

Its just that at higher res, etc the 640MB would be better. Also, I'd go for that if not a 8800GTX since getting it on finance & want it to last long :)

i cannot get a 640mb.... its not there to chose, and the 8800GTX is well outa the price range !!! if it wasn't dont you think id get it lol hehe :P,

Dual 8800GTS, Nearly as good as Single 8800GTX ?
