Comparing CRT and LCD screen resolutions

I've noticed that quite a few LCD screen s have lower max resolutions than their CRT counterparts. For example, the BenQ FP91G+ 19" LCD Monitor has a max resolution of 1280x1024, when a 19" CRT monitor would have a max resolution of 1600x1200. To my mind, that seems that the move to a LCD is a downgrade - it would be like running 1280x1024 on a 19" CRT and graphics would look less defined.

Another example is with 20" and 22" LCD monitors, which often have the same max resolution. For example, the Belinea 102035W is a 20" screen with a resolution of 1680 x 1050, yet Belinea's next biggest model - the Belinea 2230S1W Pro 22" also has a resolution of 1680 x 1050.

Does this matter? Should I be looking to get a monitor that matches screen size and native resolution as much as possible?
