comparing GPUs for SETI

Hi all

I remember seeing (some time ago) a list comparing different GPU cards/chips and rating them as a % compared to the best of the time (something like a NVidia 260 scoring 100%).

Is there such a thing for modern GPUs? I'm looking for that sweet spot of kick *** power with a bargain basement price (yup I know I'll NEVER hit both!) as I want to upgrade my 8800GTS as part of a whole new PC as I have some money coming and I want to stick it with a 2600K :D

I think the sweet spot is still the GTX460 or GTX560 for the best price|power|performance ratios
 
I am no expert but would agree with Mr Biffa that the current pricing on gtx460 and gtx560 make them a good "bang per buck" card. Try looking through peoples computers and get an idea of output with these cards from there :)

Hang fire for a bit sah before purchasing a 560ti - my search skills are zip put i do remember posting in the news or somewhere about Nvidia updateing the 560 ti and making them 448 cores well apparently only 17days to go

Aye and just when you think your ready to pounce ...... sit back and wait a bit longer unfortunately you hit 40 and that level of patience is long gone :(:D

my current rig (e6750 based) is 4 1/2 years old and done my very well. Got it to 3.5GHz and it still OK but showing it's age and giving some lag. 24/7 stable for SETI.

As I don't need case and mechanical HDD I can plow more money into the new rig (plus I can make money back on the old bits)

Good ole Nvidia eh? Rebadging for all its worth :D

So a GTX570 is really a GTX480 and the new GTX560 is a GTX470 :cool:
 
hmmm 448 vs 384 - 116% or thereabouts, but....
210W vs 170 W, thats 123%.... I think long run energy draw wise thats going to work out as less efficient?
and if its a rebadged 470, we already know thats less E efficient.
