Comparing two Asus 6950s

first one is the revision 1 version of the card that had the dual bios switch making it "safe" to flash unlock the extra shaders to give it the same as the 6970, they also arn't being made anymore iirc
 
Hmmmmm, so if I go for the second one, the only one that's in stock then I might not be able to flash it up to a 6970?

What would you guys suggest in terms of a Graphics card purchase at this point? I want to go AMD but I can't afford a 6990.
 
Don't think you can get dual bios 6950's any more! unless second hand.
But a good over clock will negate the shader unlock easily.
Just make sure you have enough clearance as it seems to be a triple slot

"Might not" isn't a strong enough term.

You're very unlikely to get an unlockable HD 6950 now unless you buy a second hand revision 1 reference design card.
