i have just built a cheap new machine for my sister, here are the specs:
> gigabyte GA-H61M-S2PV motherboard
> 8GB 1333mhz RAM
> i3 3220 @ 3.30GHz
> 750W Dell XPS 720 PSU
> 500GB Seagate Barrucuda HDD
> Soon to be changed stock heatsink fan
> Msi, nvidia gtx 660 OC

the gtx 660 and mobo don't like working together. the card works fine in another machine with an asus mobo, and an old 8800GTX works fine with the new gigabyte mobo, but for some reason, the gtx 660 and the gigabyte mobo don't work together. the gtx 660's fans spin, but there is no display. if i configure the BIOS to run only the integrated graphics, it still tries to run from the gtx 660. is this a compatibility problem, and if so, what should i do about it?

NOTE: the gigabyte's BIOS is updated to the newest version

'I recently got the MSI GeForce GTX 660 OC TwinFrozr III 2GB DDR5 192-bit and Gigabyte GA-B75-D3V.

Problem is: when I start the computer, the monitor doesn't show anything, it's like it's on stand-by. I then connected the GTX 660 to another computer with a pci-e 2.0 motherboard and worked fine (didn't install drivers, just started the computer and saw that it shows stuff on the monitor). I then connected another GPU (Gigabyte GT 420) to my new pc and worked fine aswell (showed stuff on the monitor). If I connect the monitor to the onboard GPU and the gtx 660 is still connected, still nothing displayed. If i remove the gpu and leave the monitor on the onboard gpu, it workes, monitor is showing the regular stuff, bios loading etc.

My question is: is there a compatibility problem between the gpu and the motherboard? Do I need to make a bios upgrade?

Thank you for your help'

The above problem sounds the same as yours, only different brand. I suspect the 'latest bios' for your board is not up to date. According to the Gigabyte website support the latest bios for your Mb if Rev 1.0 is dated 27/3/12 or if Rev 2.0\2.1 2/7/12 and I believe the 660 card came out after those dates. I'm sure I read another post on here a few weeks ago about the same problem.:) oh and the fix for the problem I quoted was a new bios upgrade.:)

so are you saying that i will have to wait (in which case i might as well get another motherboard) for the new BIOS update to be released?

Also, there's a BIOS update for rev 3.0 (i have rev 2.1) that dates from October 2012, so would it work with mine, or would it totally screw things up? the difference between rev 2.1 and rev 3.0 only appears to be upgrade to PCI-E 3.0, and a general re-jig of the sata connections etc...
