compatibility question for i7

I'm considering investing more money in a pc build and moving over to core i7... the reason being future upgrades... it would be far easier and cheaper for me to just get a better chip in a year or so, than to have to buy a full setup again 24 months down the line...

but, the main thing i worry about with going 64bit is that i run a vinyl cutter from my pc at the moemnt for my business... its done via a usb - serial cable which has its own drivers...

now there is one available on the internet for just £15 that has 64 bit drivers... would this then mean that the vinyl cutter would then work with the new i7 pc?

sounds like a dumb question i know but im considering going from a £500 build to a grands worth as a future investment and dont want to find its a mistake...

I currently have a omega 60 vinyl cutter, canon usb scanner, epson printer (just bought it) and various usb hdd which i assume would need new drivers?

thanks for any help :)

if i was going to have i7 i would want more than 3gb ram lol.
i might stay with the 32bit for now as im a bit paranoid... plus it means i could buy a better hdd or a 24" monitor with the money i save...

i'll check the omega drivers out though.
i guess other option is always to just add more ram to the system after i buy it if i need more and want to go 64bit....
