Compatibility - Quick Question

I can't link it because it's a competitor site, but for HDD's, it has 2x SATA I and 2x IDEs. So no SATA II I'm afraid. (assuming it is the same one)

No...

SATA II isn't a standard it's simply a marketing name for drives capable of running on a 300Mb/s SATA controller. Drives marketed as SATAII are backwards compatible with original 150Mb/s SATA controllers so if that machine has SATA ports then any current SATA HDD will work in it. The worst case is that the controller may not be able to auto negotiate the interface speed with the drive so you may need to force the HDD to run at 150Mb/s either by setting a jumper on the drive or with a software tool from the manufacturer.

Before you ask there's no speed penalty from forcing the drive to the slower interface speed, there isn't a SATA drive available which can saturate the 150Mb/s interface, let alone the 300Mb/s one.

sata2 and sata1 are backwards/forwards compatible, it doesnt matter the only time the extra bandwidth of sata2 will be used is in solid state drives, i doubt the standard hard drives will ever reach even the 150mb/s of sata1, ever.

and yes it will work

So i can safely say that i can use SATA II with this barebones then?

Thanks :)

Yes, but it won't (fully) run at it's (potential) speed. :p

yes it will work

At worst, it will run at SATA-1 speeds. Even if the disk is SATA-2 capable, it will simply run at the SATA-1 interface speed.

At best, the port will be SATA-2 and you are smiling.
