Hi all, I have Gigabyte GA_965P_DS4 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2
Motherboard and I have been using a Core 2 Duo E6600 for a good few years.

My mate has given me a Q9550. However wheni install it, the machine just loops, no bios at all. Power on, fans on then dead, power on, fans on then dead.

Is this a faulty chip or is the CPU not compatible, I've looked it up and from what I can see it should be ok spec wise it mentions quads, but me being me I cant be sure.
 
It depends on the revision of your motherboard.

Rev. 3.3 Q9550 from BIOS F12 (Non official support)

Rev. 2.0 Q9550 not supported

Rev. 1.0 Q9550 not supported
