Just wondering...

I have 6 sticks of RAM in an old I7 and a further 2 sticks in an other.

They are all exactly the same, and matching RAM.

So, I have 8 x 4GB sticks in total. That make up 32GB

They are G.Skill RipJawsX 12800 - 1600mhz ( 9-9-9-24 ) and 1.5v

The Motherboard that I have just bought, along with a pair of Opteron 2.5Ghz CPUs ( 32Core total ), is a SuperMicro H8DGI-F with the latest BIOS.

I am of course fully aware that this is a Server Board and that the RAM is NOT server RAM, however, the Board does look like it is compatible with a whole host of different RAM, and so...

The thing is, that I dotn want to go swapping out the guts of the PC and changing them all round, only to find that they are NOT compatible.

I am currently stuck in a wheelchair and only have full use of one hand and so it is NOT an easy task for me to do, so its not like it will only take me a short while... Its going to be a whole day or possibly longer to change to and from, given my physical disabilities.

So, I am wondering if they do, then I will do the swap over now, otherwise, I will have to wait until after I come out of hospital in a fortnights time.

Thanks for your time in replying to this one.

I have taken the jump.

End of the day, buying online, you have the rights to return any goods thats all very well, but the last thing I need to do, is buy some RAM that will kill the stuff I have, again, I have paid so much for this setup that I am abotu to build, that I am just being overly paranoid. With the XEON, I bought all the bits from the same place and I double-checked with the supplier that the bits were the right ones, and this one, is being built from various sources, so I dont have that luxury.

I have taken the plunge anyway and bought myself 16 sticks of RAM and that will fully populate it and so I will have absolutely no need to buy anymore for it, and I can run plenty of VMs AND have a sizeable RamDisk so I hope to hell taht its good RAM.

It is rated as exctly what the page says is good RAM, and its Samsung so again, it should be good.

I dont know why the hell I have done this, I am unable to honestly justify myself, but I have gone for a total of 256GB RAM... If the wife only knew LOL

Many thanks.
