'Compatible' Ink Cartridges

Hi. I've been wondering if 'compatible inks' have improved in the last 6-7 years as the last lot a bought for an old printer messed it up royally! I think I had to get through about 2 more 'genuine' cartridges just to clear the blockages properly! I just seems crazy that you can buy 4 compatible black cartridges for about £5 or one genuine for £20! I'm mainly looking at Epsons but any info on other brands would also be good.

Can't help, I'm afraid, but I'm also interested in the answer. I'm looking at replacing my HP Deskjet 940C with an Epson R220.

last 5 compatable ink and laser toner cartridges iv had have worked fine

I would alternate between the two- The compatible carts have much worse quality ink, & after using them for a while the print quality decreases. Then go back to genuine for a single cart and start the cycle again- Our printer has lasted over 3 yrs doing this.
