So my current GTX580 is on its last legs. Need to get it replaced before it dies completely. My biggest worry though is that I'll buy a new card and find it won't fit onto my motherboard due to having the wrong kind of slot or something.

I don't want something ultra expensive, but I would like a card that's a nice upgrade. My 1.5GB one is struggling with newer games, especially at the higher settings. Would a card like this be ok? I see the bus support tab is different for both. I don't know if that means they wont work.

Sorry. I'm good at using PCs, but I'm kinda useless at the whole "building" them thing

For around £230 you can get GTX 1060 6GB which will perform better than 970 now and even more in the future.
6GB of VRAM is almost twice as much as in 970 (3.5GB).

580 is pci-e card and the slot needed is a PCI Express x16 slot, the slot on your motherboard is more likely gen 1 or 2 could be gen 3 if your motherboard is new?.

If it is a PCI Express x16 slot, a 1060 should work if it is a gen 2 or 3 slot on your motherboard( might need a bios update) but some first gen PCI Express x16 slot, might not work or might need a bios update to work with newer cards.

What motherboard is it?.
