Hi there


Right guys this is a real serious competition because first of all you need to be extremely talented with graphic design and skilled in Adobe suite of products. We will be doing future competitions that are not based on graphics design to make it fair for all, but this one is something very special and the winner will also see their work been put to use on OcUK website. Now imagine adding that to your CV.

In order to win this you need to do the following


1. Design OcUK a landing page using Adobe/Macromedia software suites.
2. The Design will still need to have all layers easily accessible so minor edits can be easier made to the design afterwards.
3. The page needs to be no wider than 1000 pixels but can be as tall as one wishes.
4. The page will need to link to two of our best selling the systems, the Xenomorph and Predator.
5. The Theme needs to be Alien VS Predator (but anything similar nature will do) feature that clearly features the PCs.
6. For example ideally we would like to see the Xenomorph system on one side with an alien (xenomorph) crouched on top of the system looking to pounce onto the Predator System. The Predator system should ideal have a Predator next to it with it targeting the Xenomorph system with its laser gun pinpointed on the Xenomorph system, am sure you getting the idea here, but this is just an idea, feel free to come up with your own themes/ideas.
7. The systems must feature a lot of official Intel, NVIDIA and ATI Logos, this is important for us as a company, plus our own OcUK logo.
8. Remember the landing page needs to have the specification of the PC's and Sell price clearly visible with a BUY BUTTON, again layed so it can easily be altered at a later date.

I'm also concerned about copyright before I start using images of the alien and predator. Hopefully ocuk have okay'd it all with the right people?

You can use such images, if their is any copyright issues we can deal with those.

But ideally as a graphics designer you should be using your own design of xenomorph and predator.

Paying peanuts? Expect monkeys.

Its a 3hr job for a seasoned pro, something I could outsource for circa £100 or even get a friend to do as a favour.

But we feel we'd do a competition instead and remember OcUK is looking to employ a graphics designer as well.

I wait to see someone's 3 hour mock ups of Aliens and Predators!

Nonetheless, I will give it a go, but it won't be in the design you describe as that is frankly massively cheesy and I don't have time to recreate the Alien/Predator characters to avoid the trademark infringement you will encounter.

Seriously I have worked with marketing departments and some graphic designers are something else. I've got a mate who is great but he does it as a hobby mainly so something like this could take him days.

Yet there are others who will do the same thing in a matter of hours, having worked with such people I've seen how quickly some can create something really good.

I state this because you all seem to think £300 for such work is too cheap, well if your suggesting that then that would mean people in these kind of jobs must earn £100,000's per year, which they simply do not or certainly not in the IT marketing sector. The guys working at competitors, Asus and other manufacturers get paid more like £20,000 per year and design such things in hours.

If each page was worth more than several hundred pound, we'd all be learning photoshop and doing it as I could earn £1000 a day, put it simply its unrealistic.

or expect someone who wants something to look good on there CV. theres plenty of unemployed graphics design graduates who would love £300 worth of goods and something to help them get a job

Do you have the copyright holder's permission to use the alien and predator imagery?

Its an idea for the theme, what you actually do or design is upto yourselves.

If you do design something using those characters, OcUK will seek any copyright permissions involved.

I probably should have focused my lol a tad more. I was in no way mocking the value of the prize, I think it is great that OcUK run things like this.

It was purely the 3 hour comment and the reference to designing entirely new Aliens/Predator characters within that time-frame, which would be so clichéd I would die a little bit inside when the results came through.

You have undervalued graphic designers (not in this prize value), but that's not for this thread.

Nope I agree with designing characters from scratch, that is time consuming, though most professionals will already have their own characters designed. But knocking up such a landing page, say excluding characters or something else can be done quite quick. I've just spoken to a guy who does this and he said he could do it very easily within a couple of hours, but he does already have his own characters.

Here's my first design. It's not exactly to spec but I can easily throw in the details etc. Its really rough, the outlines of the mouths are very crude and the highlights too. Missed a letter out of my sweary too!

You're 2 copyright concerns will be the font and the tower images. I could use your images, but it would have just taken me longer to clean the photos up to a level I was happy to mock with.

Simple but very effective, really nice, look forward to see the ammendments you have planned m8.
