Competitive games?

Hey,

So i'm pretty sure at some point we've all had that one game where we played more than any other and became pretty competitive at it. For me it was the original Gears of War and Call of Duty 4. Also a little Black Ops 2 due to league play. But atm i'm just missing that competitive game again that I can play round after round on.

I was hoping Titanfall would be that game and it is to an extent but Titans annoy me in the game. I'm looking for a new game that I will stick at again, something thats not too old but at the same time active and has a great community to compete with. Can anyone suggest anything? I seem to just be missing that something these days and want to bring back a little competitiveness to gaming again, something I've missed.

I've always heard about CS but never really played/watched any of it. Also correct me if i'm wrong but hasn't that game been out years? If I tried to play that now i'd be so far behind everyone else learning maps, spots etc. But I do know its very competitive.

Yeah, it's been out a while but was the newest I could think of - off the top of my head. :)

I wouldn't worry about being 'behind' anyone else in skill level. If you like the game, then that should help stand you in good stead. The other game I'll recommend is CS:S, which I appreciate is very old, but is still quite popular. Had a blast earlier myself.

Always been interested in Dota 2, LOL and Smite but never got round to playing it. I'm amazed at how big those games are. Would love to play it but I've always been a FPS players and never played an Moba game in my life.

CSGO hasn't been out too long, and you won't be too far behind. Theres a ranked system so you'll always play with people around your skill level.

But CSGO/Dota2/LoL/Smite/Starcraft2 are your only options really. Hearthstone too.

man but I was crazy competitive about GOW (admittedly on the Xbox360) thought the multiplayer on the rest was pretty poor.

nothing quite beats 19 x 1 minute rounds of Raven Down!!

Haha! the nostalgia! Pity they got worse and worse as the years went on :(

Might try out CS:GO if I don't enjoy that I'll try one of the Moba games. I enjoy fast paced game which is the only thing putting me off.

As far as first person shooters go it pretty much comes down to Team Fortress 2, Quake Live, Counterstrike (Source or GO I guess) or Titanfall (because it's new, no idea if it will last) nowadays. I don't think many others can really be classed as competitive, as things like Planetside 2 are pretty casual in the grand scheme of things.

There are plenty of competitive mobas and other similar games as they seem to be the flavour of this generation, including Dota 2, LoL, World of Tanks, Smite, Bloodline Champions, Heroes of Newerth...

Starcraft 2 as others have said is a very competitive game if you like RTS games :) It does take a fair bit of dedication to get good at though. I played vanilla SC2 quite a bit and thought it was amazing, but never got that good at the expansion as I've not had the time tbh.

Oh, I almost forgot to add ShootMania. That game was pretty much designed for competitive play! I didn't get on with it though personally; I didn't like the way the weapons worked :/

I played CoD4/BO1 a bit competitively, but that's about it. WoW is pretty competitive as far as raiding and PvP are concerned. The biggest is obviously LoL though, game's gargantuan.

Moba?

Such as Dota 2, LOL, HON, Smite.

LOL - I would warn you now the community for LoL in EU West is terrible especially in the competitive side, crazy loudmouth complainers. Many people leave the game as the abuse of players who are incapable of admitting their own mistakes get to them and cause you to cut your eyes out. Besides that though its all good.

I've heard this from several people about the community when starting out on the game.

well... League of legends is somewhat notorious for it, sadly.
I just got back into the game and have taken excellent use of the block buttons in game :)

Nonsense! If people complain at you for their shortcomings, troll them to death. I have wound SO many people up. Nothing is better than a teammate close to you diving into a 1v5 with nobody but yourself there, dying and then moaning at you like you were supposed to commit suicide too. I've been in tears from how wound up I can get people, it's hilarious.

well, I only ignore them as I do not wish a ban myself, I tend to take things too far when I troll.

Just stick to game mechanics with your comments, when somebody is failing hard and trying to pin it on a teammate, constantly reminding them of why they derped etc. will wind them up way more than insults. If they report you Riot will look over the chat from the game and they'll get in trouble.

I always found complaining stupid myself, it's like you're sitting there missing farm and potential ganks/kills to type some rubbish, does nobody any favors and most people don't like being told that neither. :p
