b) how do other sub-sections get away with it ?

It's their forum running on their servers that they pay for. Surely that would give em the right to demand that all users wear a mango on their face while posting here if they wanted to? Requesting that we simply don't talk about their competitors is fair enough.

I think its fair enough. I mean I have a brain, I can decide if OUCK is cheaper for one product or another, or if they offer a better service than others.

For all products its easy to google to find cheaper prices, good service is another thing intirely.

Just seems a bit odd to ban someone that asks where they can buy, say, Red Alert 3 for the cheapest price. Even though OCUK don't stock it.

I would agree, where do you draw the line? I would say the supermarkets are fine to mention. But other hardware e-tailers and highstreet games shops are off limits.

I know it's difficult, and can only be deemed by the poster really. If it's a direct competitor then it's a def no-no but if it's someone more obscure then I can understand the confusion and will just delete as appropriate.

If also you could help us out by RTM'ing suspect posts (in general) we do appreciate it

Yeh I agree, why can't these people use google? The forums can be used for speccing the product right for you. The buyer then decides where he spends his money.

The rules are different for each section of the forums, as that place above is also allowed in motors, as they do petrol as well, but these guys don't do cars.

Theres also a place allowed to be mentioned in GD that does loads of PC hardware/software, peripherals, games consoles etc.... as well, just as long as you don't ask for those, if you ask about stuff for the home, then you can mention it.

Use commons sense.

If someone in GD is asking where to buy some cheap whiskey or moaning that their frozen peas turned up unfrozen, then they can obviously mention Tesco.

If your talking about a product, or in a thread about a product that OcUK may sell or a company is obviously a competitor then don't mention them.

Tesco are a company that sells damn near everything on earth, it would be silly to class them as a competitor when talking about where people get their car insurance or do their shopping from.

I think most people understand the whole point of you not wanting people to post competitors. I personally don't have a problem with it. But i think most people trip up/post hints etc in these forums is due to the fact that, apart from a few xbox consoles and wiis, OCUK don't have much to do with games which is why most people don't see them as a direct competitor (in this market off course)

I think people just want a bit of clarity to save them getting the old ban hammer.
