Howdy :)

I've been using Ubuntu for a short while now, and decided to play with compiz-fusion. looks great, I like the emerald themes and I love the win>tab app switcher.

The only problem is, When I try and run a game (Urban Terror), the proverbial hits the fan as my window effects and the game seem to fight for focus. when I disable all fancy desktop effects, I can play 3d games just fine.

This is on an X1950pro, Hardy alpha6, default graphics drivers.

Is their any way to get compiz to play nicely with 3d games?

Cheers!

Your running Hardy Alpha 6. I think you might get a better response asking that question on Sourceforge !!

What he ^^ said.

If you're running an alpha release - they really are for developers.

Aside from that, try using the proprietary ATI drivers (you should get better performance at least from them.

I had a similar experience with Beryl on PLCOS, and with compiz on Mint Daryna, so i don't think it's due to the alpha-ness :/

Surely other people have noticed that compiz doesn't play nicely with 3D games?

Yeh it doesn't, read a lot about games over wine being pap with compiz on.

i think it's just a general problem with compiz for everybody at this point, install fusion-icon if you haven't already then it's an easy click to enable/disable CF at will.

you'd be much better off with the 8.3 prop ATI drivers also, compiz runs a lot better.

cheers, will look into the compiz toggle.

tbh, I reinstalled twice yesterday, and I can't remeber if I'm using the 8.3's from the ati site or not.. I'll check later :)
