Hi,

I am currently playing with Mint x64 and everything I've tried so far works very nicely.

The only problem I am having is in setting the number of virtual desktops. I want 2 x 2 but whenever I change the horizontal default from 4 to 2, it just jumps back to 4.

Driving me mad !

It will allow me to set 1x1, 3x3, 4x4 etc but for some reason 2x2 is a no no.

Any ideas ?

You are not teaching granny to suck eggs ! I am not a complete noob but quite rusty on Linux.

The desktop is Gnome if that's what you mean by environment.

I can only find a way of setting the number of desktops from within the compiz settings under "General Options" and then on the "Desktop Size" tab. There are sliders here for the number of horizontal and vertical desktops.

It is most odd - There are other combinations it refuses to allow such as 2h x 1v but it will allow 1h x 2v. Don't get it...

I don't see a way to change the config from the desktop itself - I've seen this before on other distributions where there is something (usually) in the lower right corner of the taskbar.

Hmmm...

Thanks for the help.

I think Mint is following Ubuntu in the Appearance settings but I am still drawing a blank on how to set Gnome to use just one desktop.

Time for bed I think and have another go tomorrow !

3x1 works for me too - Google is my friend in these situations. I'm sure someone else must have seen it as it happens to me on 2 completely different machines.

I suspected the cube thingy but I have that switched off.

I am back posting from Ubuntu 9.04. It works perfectly here.

The main obvious difference is that in Ubuntu there is the Gnome switcher (called Workspace switcher when I right click on it and select About) in the bottom right corner next to the "Recycle Bin" but this doesn't appear to exist in Mint.

Other than that I've no idea why I cant get Mint to configure as 2 x 2.
