I'd like spec for a complete gaming computer for a friend. Need monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, mousemat, windows, tower.

Budget is £1k.

Haven't kept up with hardware since I built my rig 3 years ago, so help would be greatly appreciated :).

complete spec with a 290 gpu
 
The 290 is wasted on a standard 1080p screen. That is why I went for a 144hz monitor as even the 280x will give you over 60-100 FPS on most titles anyway.

Id say spending an extra £60 on a double+ hz display is better than spending it on a GPU. What the point in producing the FPS if you can't see it?
