Is there a way to see complete history of domain ownership activity for a .pro domain? I am certain that a domain I wanted was available when I checked recently, but the whois record says it has been registered for years and updated a few days ago. However, the expiry date is a number of whole years after the registration date, not after the 'updated' date, which seems to me to indicate that the domain was not available when I first looked.

If not for the 'updated' entry in the whois record being so recent, I might be inclined to believe that I had remembered wrong. As it is though, I think the records are incomplete, but that doesn't explain the expiry date. It's too late either way.

Anyone got any idea how all this works?

Little update: the "created" date is the date of the last registration, so even if there are gaps in the whois domain record, the created date is the relevant one for my query. Meaning I can put this down to fallible human memory.

DomainTools will show you summary info (use it like this for quicker searching: whois.sc/domain.com), log in with a free account to avoid the constant CAPTCHAs. You'll need credits to view the detailed historical info they've scraped from whoises.
