Hey guys, first off i will apolagise in advance for any miss spellings i might make as my keyboard on this laptop sometimes decides not to type certian letters so (hopefully it won't today) i might not make sense!!

now then i am going to be building my own PC for the first time ever very soon, the only thing i have atm is this terrible laptop, i am going to be getting a 24" monitor and would like a tower which will allow me to play the latest games smoothly, now then i'm not one of these bums who wants to play that stupid game crysis and post a video on youtube of how my FPS is higher than yours. As long as i can get 250fps stable COD4 online (i used to play high level at lans before i quit and want to go back to that soon) and can run newer games like mass effec 2 (loved the first one) i will be happy.

The thing which is getting to me are these new procesors, which are best for gaming? I know some people recommend quad core but my old PC was dual core @ 3.6ghz with a gtx 260 a nforce 780i mobo and 2gig DDR2 dominator ram and it blew threw everything on high with ease, so i was thinking i3 with DDR3 1600mhz ram a cheap gigabyte MOBO and a 5770 and a nice 650w power supply, would this be sufficent or should i look into getting an i5? i've never ran on this high res, my old was 1680x1050 so i'm not sure if i should change something, cheers for reading lads.
