please advise on what possibly could be changed, as i dont want to pay anymore than i have to :) Will the Tagan be man enough to run this? I have always gone with the best psu i can get, as i dont want to blow all other kit. These are an unknown quanity for me, but the only one with the required with 4x6pin pci-e connectors. Have a scan and let me know, this is pretty much the final build.

Cheers Deano

Well people will tell you to get Samsung hard drives instead of Maxtor and if gaming is your priority then DDR3 is a waste of money.

how reliable are the sammy's? I have always had maxtors and they sweet as :)
Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 Dominator PC2-8500C5 TwinX (2x2GB) Supplied with Airflow Fan (TWIN2X4096-8500C5DF) £89.99
(£105.74)
do the job? Change psu as its worring me slightly?

which sammy's? Spinpoint F1? 16mb cache?

Yeah F1 is what everyone recommends. PSU has more than enough watts to supply the above system and Tagan is a pretty reliable brand. If you are going for DDR2 ram then you also will need a different mobo.

I'd change that CPU to either a Q6600 or a Q6700, they'll generally overclock much higher than your current choice, thus resulting in a faster CPU.

Also consider getting DDR2 instead of 3, you could get 8GB DDR2 for what you'd be paying for that DDR3, and change the motherboard to an asus maximus formula.
Samsung drives are very good, and are very fast, especially the F1 1TB ones.

For the graphics cards, 2 powercolor 4870s will be cheaper than that crossfire bundle, OC has their powercolors at £199 each.

For a PSU, I'd recommend a coolermaster realpower modular PSU, I'm pretty paranoid about Tagans as I've had a few blow up on me when stressed , once taking out a graphics card with it.

Okay, not literally blow up, but they went out with a loud bang and some smoke to add to the effect :D

why change back to ddr2? Are the DDr3 system not doing especially great? Should I be looking at staying with the x48 chipset, or the x38? Will the extra MB on the chip cache help?

Neat spec,
You could get on with cheaper PSU - 600-700W will be enough for it.
You could wait for the 4870 1gb version tho, it's coming by the end of this month I think.

How bout this, get some quite aftermarket coolers for the 4870 when they are released and this will be a very quite computer as well.

DDR 3 isn't worth it.

Can also upgrade the 6400 to 8500 if you want.

need to check the cpu cooler would fit in that case.

nice spot, i want an extension for the power lead if i can. Some good points here. Some say x38 mobo, some x48. All seem keen on doing the Q6600, i want a blue ray player in this build if i go for it. Will i see the benifit from the extra cache on the Q9450, over what i have selected here?
