Hi,

Looking to upgrade my current system (Athlon 2600+, 712 crucial ram ...... very old!).

I have been looking around for a bit and have come up with the following :

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939) - Retail (ADA3800BVBOX) (CP-134-AM) 91.99
Asrock 939Dual-SATA2 (Socket 939 & Upgradable to AM2) AGP & PCI-Express Motherboard 37.99
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 200GB ST3200820AS SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (HD-085-SE) 45.95
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 (GE2GB3200BDC) (MY-046-GL) 129.99

Antec Titan 550 Tower Case - 550w TruePower PSU (CA-041-AN) 79.99
OcUK Value Hanns-G HW191D 19" Widescreen LCD Monitor - Silver (MO-017-OK) 113.99

Subtotal: 499.90
Vat : 89.49
Total : 587.39

My main uses for the system will be running the latest Football Manager, Multimedia (probably at the same time), Web Surfing & perhaps some other gaming such as BF2 and such.

I have no real affinity with Athlon, and was wandering whether I can acheive better results following the Intel route instead ?

Am completely new to overclocking and would like to purchase something with a bit of potential in that area too.

What is your budget?

It's always good to know it when giving advice to people, gives us a good idea on what to recommend to you.

Certainly no more than the figure above (550 ish).

However, I can probably drop the monitor, in which case I would be looking to spend no more than around 500. All the rest is needed (especially the replacement for my 20gb hard drive - I'm sure there are phones with more storeage space these days.)

I also have a radeon 9550 agp graphics card, so would prefer a mobo which can take that.

cheers.
