Okay folks be gentle with me, I have gone through the beginners guide slowly but surely, but if I am honest...I am still confused (age is a terrible thing). First of all I will admit to one thing, I am a flight sim freak and I am trying to get a bit more oomph in order to run Microsofts FSX at half decent framerates...in this case about 10 :D

I have just broke the bank with this so I don't want to blow anything up (apart from which the wife would kill me), and to cap it all I have now found that the memory may not be able to run at full capacity with my board.. I would really appreciate some advice on what I need to change in the bios in order to get that bit more, the specs are as follows

Asus P5W DH DeLuxe mobo
E6700 cpu (Stock cooling)
Corsair DDR2 XMS C8500 (5 5 5 15)
Evga gts8800 gpu
Termaltake 680w psu
Aopen Noveau Case (fans front and back

I believe I can get the cpu up to 3.1 without it blowing up and the memory to run at 1066/7 rather than the 5300 it defaults to.

Any help would really be appreciated

Many thanks

Paul

You should have gone with the 6600 as this is cheaper and can clock up to 6700 speeds and beyond on air! but never mind, I have a similar setup to you yours will be a bit faster, anyway you will need to get rid of the stock cooler and get one recommended on here.

I have a arctic 7 cooler and my temps sit at idle 25c and full ,load 35-40c.
I also play fsx and to be honest the game is very cpu limited and does'nt use the 2 cores so even with your setup you will be looking at around 15-25 fps in city areas with most bells and whistles turned up.

You should be able to get much more out of your cpu with a good cooler! :)

Hi, the problem I have with replacing the cooler is my Box, the Aopen has one of these funnel type things that sits directly over the cpu fan, currently that is about 20mm away, by the looks of the Arctic 7 it may not fit :(

Any tips on what I should be changing? I currently get about 20fps on average with it all set at stock

Thanks for responding by the way

Turn off bloom, shadows on buildings , water set to low x2 on top tier setting. should make it better, also turn down clouds to medium, I have autogen on dense and the other one very dense with all the texture sliders max apart from the water one.

I dont have any problems until maybe flying over a very dense city.

Oh and set your frames slider to unlimited. :)

Do you play online? I have been playing online with my new mic and its great fun.

Not sure what cpu cooler will fit in the case but someone with knowledge on the case might be able to help.

Becareful with your cpu due to the stock cooler, have a look at the sticky on this page forum and download some tools to check the temps on your cpu at stock first, download the orthos duel core program and run that with the temp monitor at the same time and see what your load temps are like! use thee blend mode on orthos.

Well I fiddled about a bit but not really sure what to change to get the best out of the system without blowing it up :D Changing the cpu speed I am okay with, its the RAM that is completely doing my head in. Looking through the beginners guide it seems I have to change voltages which is a bit scary. I would like to get more out of the RAM as I believe this board auotamitaclly restricts what it can achieve (what do I know)

So far it doesn't run hot, the CPU idles at about 27-29 and mobo about 40.

I can use the AI booster that came with the board but again I am still a bit unsure as to what I am doing

You're only getting 10fps with that setup!!?? WHAT!? This is the the latest tech (well, almost) and you can only get 10fps? I don't get it. Is this game just useless? Why are we spending all this money to get a pitiful 10fps!?! What's the world coming to?? Begs the question for my upcoming upgrade - what's the point?

What causes a computer to get unstable?, is it purely temperature? or can it just be the hardware cant handle it...Im planning on buying a new CPU cooler for my 3500+ to hopefully get it clocked abit further and Im just wanting to know its gonna acctaully make any differance to overclocking...
