Complete System for Under £750

Good day all,

I have been running a dated laptop (5 years old atleast) and am at the point where I need to get a fresh system.

Current pre-built options include:

Laptop - i7 3630QM 2.4GHz, 8Gb 1600MHz, 750Gb SSD, 2Gb Geforce GT650M & Win 7 = £739.99

Laptop - i7 3632QM 2.2GHz, 8Gb 1600MHz, 1Tb SATA HDD 7200Rpm, 2Gb Geforce GT710M & Win 8 = £699.97

Desktop - i5 3470 3.6GHz, 8Gb 1600MHz, 1Tb SATA HDD 7200Rpm, 2Gb Radeon HD7750, 24" Monitor, standard keyboard & Win 7 = £710.50

Desktop - i5 3570K 3.4GHz, 8Gb 1600MHz, 1Tb SATA HDD 7200Rpm, 2Gb Radeon HD7750, 24" Monitor, standard keyboard & Win 7 = £739.50

I have built systems before so am interested to head in this direction but am finding it difficult to put together a list of components (entire system including a monitor and keyboard) for under £750.

Most games I own are relatively dated including FEAR, Battlefield 2 and Race 07; I also frequently edit photos. I have looked at suggestions made in other threads but most users are either upgrading or atleast do not need to invest in additional peripherals. I would appreciate some suggestions to get me started.

The 7750 in those builds are poor. The 7850 had double (yes double) the performance of the 7750.

Be warned the cases & psu you'll get with those pre built (unless otherwise stated) will be very poor and may put your pc at risk..

The i3 would suffice your uses for now then you can upgrade when the funds allow.
 
Given you usage I would stick to one of the pre built desktop versions as you need. Your not playing very demanding games so 7750 will be more then enough but a 3570k should really make the difference in photo editing.

You may want to consider an AMD piledriver system from the 8000 range those extra threads might come in handy for photo editing (i haven't looked at any benchmarks recently so this could be wrong)

snips86x: Thanks for the list. Just expanding my options slightly. I have a 500Gb HDD in an external enclosure that I could use within the system. Should I go this route would the £50 saved be better spent on the CPU or a higher wattage PSU?

Thanks for the heads up regarding the GPU, the 7850 as you suggest and Snips listed seems the way to go. I had upgraded the PSU on the prebuilt system to a "750W High Efficiency G7 Extreme Modular Super Silent Power Supply"

Freddie: Cheers, I shall look into the CPU, as mentioned above I could re-allocate an extra £50 into the CPU so upping to AMD 8xxx could be an option.
