Hey guys. Just a quick post to say I have now completed the hatrick (Windows, OSX & Linux) of operating systems that I have in use...with my first venture into Linux being Ubuntu NBR (on an Advent 4211) and Mint as a dual boot on my desktop.

Have to say it is all VERY confusing to work out how to do stuff, but no doubt I will get there in the end.

NBR is really quite good and all worked out with no tweaking so far. Mint is v.nice too.

So here I am, no doubt going to be asking Q's aplenty here of you guru's.

Cheers BillytheImpaler. Much appreciated!

Well, was a struggle just getting the right packages installed on Mint in order to write the USB image (for NBR) that I had downloaded but I got there in the end. Not having a simple .exe to install is quite a challenge for a Linux newb like me.

This terminal stuff is a bit confusing (and daunting too but it seems to me this is where it is all at for Linux and therefore worth getting to grips with).

Think i need to break the habit of a lifetime and do some reading (rather than just diving in) in order to really get going. Probably need a good beginners guide to Ubuntu (and specifically using the terminal) and work through that to get me going. I think the confusion is mainly how to do the stuff I could do on Windows generally, but I have to say I like the challenge and I am enjoying the ride so far. In fact that was probably why I bought a mac actually, just to learn something new - If I had dipped a toe into Linux waters instead, that might have saved me quite a bit of cash actually.

All I would suggest is signing up to www.ubuntuforums.org everyone there is so helpful and most questions you ask will probably get answered in about an hour if that.

I found it such a lifeline for using ubuntu and made the experience so much more enjoyable knowing there is someone else who had the same problem and is willing to help you out :-)

Enjoy
