Hi, I'm completely new to overclocking but have read some things here and there and decided I might have a go on my GPU.

I only have an ATI HD 4850 that's been at its default settings for years, I just thought I'd overclock it a tiny bit if possible. So I read a guide on the net that well... made it sound too simple.

I'm in AMD Overdrive and have increased the GPU clock from 625mhz to 700, and the memory clock from 1000mhz to 1075mhz.

I only have stock cooling. Is it really a case of just keep going up little bit by little bit until the test fails? because at the moment its still passing.

Currently activity is at 0%, Temp at 31c and fan speed at 36%.
Just after the test It says the temp is at 43c, fan speed at 45%

This is just my first time trying anything like this and I don't want to harm it. Where should I stop if it just keeps passing?

Also which programs should I download to keep an eye on things like my cpu and gpu in the future? :)

MSI Afterburner is better than Overdrive for GPU overclocking. It gives you lots of options, and allows you to alter the fan profile. You also need to download Unigine Heaven as a stress test and run that to test stability.

Turn up the clocks in increments and run Heaven to test the new settings looking out for any artifacts. When artifacts start to appear, back off the clocks until they go away again. Focus on the vRAM speed and the GPU speed separately. If you are adjusting both at the same time things can get confusing.

Hope that's of some help :)
