For various reasons I am no longer upto date with the graphics card market, and I'm looking for some advice.

In this computer I currently have a 9800 Pro, but it's damaged, I'm looking to upgrade somewhat. I noticed in "This week only" a 'BFG GeForce 6800 GS OC 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI' card for £164 - is this a good card/how does it compare to a 9800Pro? The 6800s in general seem fairly cheap, are they a good range of cards, and is there one to avoid (eg a "Lite" version)?

In addition to this, could anyone recommend a similar AGP card (or better), my max price is around £250.

Thanks

i think you would notice a great improvement over a 9800 pro, the 6800GS is shader 3 enabled and short of going for a total change into pci express, i'd say it would be a exellent upgrade. No need to be spending anymore than that on a AGP card tbh but you might want to consider ATI X800 range if thats the make is your most preferred card type, but are lacking in shader 3 capabilities, or even maybe wait a few more weeks for the 7800 AGP card Gibbo has mentioned. Hope that helps :)

/Edit the 7800 GS AGP are already in and within ya max budget ....i'm still half asleep, mornings are never my best time

That does help a lot :)

Just wondering if you know how much of a performance gain the 7800GS is over the 6800 version - it's £50 cheaper, is it worth trying to get the extra money for that card?

LOL, thats exactly what I always do, I budget for something then theres always that, ''what if I just add a bit more cash and step up a grade'' thought,, :)

Hah - that's always the case I guess ;)

Looking at this case though - I've set myself an 'ultimate' top limit of £250, I'm just wondering if the 7800GS is worth the extra £50, if the performance gain isn't significant, I'd rather spend the £190.

I've plumped for the 6800GS, I think before a full PCI-E upgrade I'll try to save as much as possible. Cheers for the advice everyone :)
