ABERDEEN!!!!!!
Right, jumping straight in, iv got a huge problem with my computer and i cant for the life of me work out what the hell is wrong with the thing.

Symptoms: Relay high CPU load when nothing is happening(no actions being taken actively but obviously somethings going on).

what I've so far worked out: its not likely to be a virus/malware unless its a new breed of annoyance.(iv checked with AVG and avast! but no threats were found, also checked with a few spyware programs and other malware things.)
it seems that one of the "svchost" processes is taking up around 30-50% of the "juice" and another is using about 15% as well, sometimes more. it was fine a few days ago, and the only change iv made to my comp was changing the case(i relay cant think how the hell that would change the processor usage).

taking note that my processor is a phenom II 955(at stock) what the hell could be wrong? iv been thinking all day and came to no solutions... oh, and im running on W7, the rest of my spec is in my sig i think.

any help would be greatly appreciated!!

If its svchost causing the issue then it is highly likely, at least from my experience, that your PC is infected with something. The only thing I would suggest is downloading Avira (it is the best free anti-virus program going, there is no argument and tests have been done - it topped charts with, iirc, a 99.7% detection rate) and give that a blast once it has updated. Remember to also try in Safe Mode ;)

If that doesn't work then the next step I would say is to try a Hijackthis report and post it on their forums for one of their techs to look at, they really know what they're doing.

Again, if that doesn't get anywhere then a format might be on the horizon...

Wish you luck in sorting it!

That is perplexing, I remember something similar happening with some drivers. Try playing around with those, try different versions of audio video etc. Worth a shot anyway.

Right, as previously started i have tried virus scanning, but i suppose the more the merrier!

i did have a look at what svchost it was, sadly the major user was the power management controller, the Plug n play interface, and some Dcom thing(i think that was and is some server communication protocol or some such thing) the other one was a multitude of things, way 2 much to state, but it was major component of windows anyway.

as for drivers i did think it could be that, but im not sure what ones to go for, iv updated my graph card ones and my networking drivers, but i cant remember where to get the other drivers... or what other drivers it could be...

now to run some tests and try and work this out, :S any more suggestions?

this is strange.... it seems to have fixed its self a little, still getting a bit more than i would say avarage acctivity, but sometimes its normal(0-2%), i wana work out what was wrong still just incase it happenes again....

My next bet would have been system restore to 2-3 days ago at a time when you've known the OS to be 100% responsive. If it's still happening, then I'd bank on it being viral. Remember that there was a big upsurge in rootkits in 2009 - they have stealth, and even if detected, they are a right bugger to remove. It is basically R.I.P. to the OS = reformat.

Try rolling back drivers or going to a system restore point. If you still have the problem, it's probably a virus :(. Viruses can infect system files, I had a massive problem with it. I actually solved it by deleting the windows file, and Windows automatically replaced it, but this is a process.

Dont forget to SCAN IN SAFE MODE.

Is your machine networked atall. high usage could come from friendly software that is currently monitoring or updating shares. Such as videos\music and pictures.
The wmpnetwork service used to always have my computer running near max out CPU, Took me a while to find the source.

i dont recon restoring it to 2-3 days ago would do anything at all as i didnt install anything before it started funking out, ALL i did was move the internals to a new case, but it seems to have fixed its self, thanks everone for all the help, if it comes up again i shall try the list again,

If its svchost causing the issue then it is highly likely, at least from my experience, that your PC is infected with something.

not always though on one of my old machines back when win2k was the os of choice my win2k pro genuine cd would give me a svchost using 100% cpu usage everytime i did a fresh install, it would go away as soon as i got all the latest updates from MS.

possibly a conflict between onboard nic drivers

Right, this problem has cropped up again! one problem, i dont have my OS on a disk... any 1 got a guild for getting it on a disk to install it again after a reformat?

i downloaded the OS direct from the microsoft website... its windows 7 just to let you people know.

all i need to do id steal my music from my pc somehow... just to store it.

Thanks for the help, any change u got a bit more of a detailed guide to actualy packing the windoes OS? i know what im doin with thee buring of Linux OS and running it, but the rest is a bit more complex to me...

EDIT:i see a small problem with this plan, iv only got 1 burner/cd drive on my computer.... so im gona have 2 install it to another partition or something...
