I have a computer at my home and also a friend users there laptop at mine which I have set up a small network so when I am on my computer and they are there's we can see each others computers and files etc as there laptop connects to my router wirelessly.

Is there anyway when they are NOT at my home that when they are on there laptop at there home and on the internet we can still use each others network ? is that at all possible ?

both running XP, I have no idea.

thanks

not a complicated question so i refuse to answer ;)

Quite a few ways of doing this though. VPN is probably the easiest way.

mmmm looking at vpn now, so all i have to do is get there ip and put it under the VPN settings, do they have to accept or anthing on there computer?

How will they know that it is set up

install hamachi on both, and create a network called 'magicsnetwork' and set a password, get your mate to join your network

-don't tick 'disable vulnerable services over hamachi' when installing it., file sharing is one of those.

it's a lot slower over the net because your upload speeds will be crap, but it does work, i use it on a daily basis

I have just installed it on my pc not installed it on the laptop yet as dont have access to it at the moment. But when I do, will I then see all his files like I do when he is at mine, under network places

About VPN, you have to set up a IP, but that to me seems pointless as so many change if you unplug routers, disconnect etc ? am I right in that ?

Many home users have static ip, and use dyndns (Many routers now have a DynDNS client built in).

But yes, stick with the easier option :)
