Ok so if you open two word files, you get two instances of word so it is easy to have side by side.

Try the same in Excel and you get one instance with two windows inside, how can I make it automatically behave like word does.

Thus can rule out the following:
Manually opening two instances and opening the file in each of them
Using side by side view in excel, I want separate ribbons/menus

It is really bugging me and could do with some help!

Thanks :)

Yeh I have tried the regedit fix of adding "%1" to the end of the shell open default command and it hasn't helped.

Found a fix pack here:
http://www.online-tech-tips.com/ms-office-tips/how-to-open-a-new-instance-of-excel-2007-workbooks/

And it has worked, although I have to re-associate excel files with excel.

New issue:
When you open a file, in the task bar it says "Microsoft Excel - File Name" but since the first half is so long, you don't get to see much of the file name, is there a way to reduce the length of the Microsoft Excel part?
