Hi all

I have a plasma (old skool panasonic ) which will take vga or component through a HD15 connector (you can choose the signal in the menu )

I would like to plug my wii in using component and my htpc in using VGA . I can do either or just now but swapping cables is a pain.

Can i get a vga splitter adaptor and then plug both into the tv at the same time? Obviously i can use only one or the other and still need to choose the signal type..

Is this electrically safe?

Alternatly does anyone know if the GT520 can output component video over the vga lead?

Thanks

Not a good idea to have two sources connected to the same source input without some sort of A/B isolation. The TV doesn't provide that, so you need something external. Maybe a KVM switch as a cheap solution?

All a KVM is doing is connecting one set of connections to another surely?

Check the pin-out configuration of Component on the VGA socket. I think you'll find they're the same as the R,G & B lines. That's why I can use a standard VGA too 5x BNC breakout cable for Component. Component carries sync on Y (Luma) so you don't need the H&V syncs connecting. The details will be in the back of your Pana manual, or you can download a fresh copy off the Pana site. VGA RGB is always R-1, G-2, B-3 with corresponding grounds on pins 6, 7 and 8 respectively. I'd be surprised is Y, R-Y, B-Y aren't on the same pins.

i got a cheap splitter/switch from ebay and it seems to work fine. would be great if I could make he gt520 output component though. oh well.
