Is there any way to use the wii component cable on a TV which doesn't have a proper component input. I have a TV with a VGA input and I thought there might be a convertor for it.

Depends on the TV. Is it a HDTV? If so, it may be able to accept component via a component to VGA cable, along with triple phono coupler, like I do for my 360.

Else, if it's just a normal VGA only input, then you'd have to spend a lot more to convert the component signal into a decent VGA picture.

I thought VGA required separate signals for H-sync & V-sync so you would not be able to take the RGB signals into a VGA connector and expect a picture? If thats what you're doing on your 360, can you provide a bit more detail on what you're using, i'm intregued.

I dont know much about the Wii, but what form does the component take? is it RGB or YUV?

Component should be YUV.

You need a converter, you can get ones supporting up to 1080i for about £30. Thats what I use to connect my PS2 to my monitor using progressive scan, plays gt4 in 1080i mode fine as well.

My HDTV does not have a direct component input, but as component has a similar cable system to VGA, so the TV will accept a component signal via the VGA port. The TV itself has 2 separate channels for that connection, PC and YUV.
So using the following with the 360 component cable:

Some (not all, not that many either) TV sets accept component via the 15-pin D-sub connector, no conversion needed, the TV recognises it is a component signal.
IIRC some TV sets/projectors accept component via the scart connector too, just a simple adapter is needed again, no signal converter.

Converting component to RGB VGA signals is a completely different matter, and as DaveyD said, will need an expensive external converter to get a decent image.

EDIT: beaten to it :)
