I'm looking to replace my oak front door with a composite one and wondered whether there is any preferred brand? I've read people talk about Rock door which seems pretty reasonable. Are there any others that's worth a look, or anything I need to look out for?

My parents just replaced both their front and back doors with Rock doors... they are (finally) very happy with them - The front one took 3 attempts to be manufactured correctly - the first two had the glass panels not vertical, so it looked like the door was tilted, even though it was perfectly square-on.

They do seem VERY solid, not that I've tried to put a foot through one, but do seem to be well made and sturdy.

Rock door have gone downhill, at least the ones manufactured in Bury near me.

They stopped using a silicone seal around the edges of the glass and instead started using a foam tape, which doesn't do the job properly. We had a panel fail about 4 times, all due to water getting into the gap around the glass. So in the end we sealed it up ourselves (voiding the warranty) just so we wouldn't have to keep going back to the job.

Also, you have to go horrifically expensive to get the Rock door that is A rated and the highest security. They still put a fairly cheap barrel lock on it, for the price of the top rated model i'd have expected ABS cylinders.

Mixed reviews then. I am after one without any glazing so maybe I'll avoid some of the issues people have experienced?

It would be worth finding a local manufacturer and going to have a look at the quality of their composite doors and comparing with Rock door. Without the glass a Rockdoor would be fine, but they are still overpriced IMO.

One thing I would suggest is to go for stainless steel furniture. Chrome or brass plated starts to tarnish in no time.
