This may be a stupid question but-

I have just brought a brand new AMD Athlon 64 3200+ retail packed cpu
it has got no heatsink compound in the box, have i got to put some on or not.

I dont tend to overclock as well, so it will be running @ stock speed.
 
oh right, sorry me being a bit old school looking for white compound on the heatsink.

you are right there is a silver square bit on heatsink.
