Just got a can of compressed air to use on my GFX card as quite a bit of dust is trapped in between the heatsink.

Is it ok to just blast the heatsink with compressed air?

Well that sucked. It hardly took any dust away from the GPU Heatsink... Sometimes it came out as liquid for a second or so to. I was holding the can upright.

Maybe I need a better brand?

Tom_D I was thinking of doing this today as well my GTX 560 is getting abit dusty!, the fan fans are so damn tight I can't get anything in between :(

i use a foot pump, like the ones from paddling pools. i have a thin nozzle on it, and it cleans my gpu and nh-d14 perfectly fine, oh and its unlimited air supply :D

Similar to this, I used a track pump with a football needle :D
Pin point air blowing.

I really need to buy something for cleaning out the dust. I dont like using Compressed Air, to scared lol. Used one on my keyboard that I bought for testing and it seems to let out liquid abit.

I guess it depends what brand it is. I have tried several and only the cheapest one squirted liquid substance out. Just have to make sure you do it in short controlled bursts :)

Fan filters will prevent the woes of dust! :P there's a thread in the general hardware section atm where their talking about it,

The compressed air won't be much good without a straw as it bursts out in all unspecified directions however a straw focuses the direction of air and keeps the pressure in the straw right to the end where your spraying :P

Either way dust is a nightmare but positive air flow inside the case will help keep dust outside! (I have filters a positive airflow and clean my pc out ever year with nothing but light VERY thin layers of dust :o )

I use a small half inch paint brush as it loosens the dirt through the heat-sync then vacuum it out of blow with compressed air then vacuum.

I once brought the good compressed air from OCuk (i assume it was good, it was pricey for air!) and that also has "water" in it.
(its owing to the change in pressure and causing gasses to cool and evaporate/condensate)
However i doubt that it's water, as the can would need oxygen and hydrogen in it to make water and that would be very flammable (rocket fuel) or just compressed water! What ever the liquid is it should evaporate very quick and much quicker than water (it did for me). Its more than likely to be liquid oxygen or nitrogen and will evaporate at room temp in a few seconds. (i could be wrong here though, its just a logical thought, unless the manufacturers simply compress damp air which would be silly i think and easily avoidable).
A small amount of water also will not harm anything, as long as it is not powered until it is completely dry, although jet-washing your PC may still not be a good idea!

Not sure if its a cheap one, its called air duster and has a big red star on it. I payed 8 quid for it.
