Compressing AVCHD

I have a 470MB AVCHD file how can I compress it smaller and keep the quality? Is it possible? Plus, is is free?

How long is it? ~450MB is about right for 10-15 minutes at 720p, any smaller and you tend to introduce artifacts (at least in my experience). You could try using handbrake to compress it, i believe that is free.

You could give handbrake, or SUPER a try, they are both free. i usually encode at 5000kbps, it gives almost identical files to the original.
