Compression fittings - confused?

I am redoing my watercooling since I'm finally going i7 :D

I currenty have Tygon (sic?) 7/16" tubing (thick wall). Which size compression fittings do I need for this please?

Or it it easier/better to get new tubing and matching fittings.

If so can somebody say what size goes with what please as I can;t get my head round them. In fact, why are some listed in mm and others in inches since tubes seem to come in inches?

Thanks Richard.....i think. Is my question really stupid or am I being thick?

you hardly see 7/16" fittings but lots of 16/11mm. Is that really 7/16" but just metric so even though the same site lists the tubing as 7/16" you need the 16/11 compression fittings?

Also I have now check and my tygon tubing is 7/16" internal and 11/16" external (or 11.1mm and 17.4mm). Do such compression fittings even exist and if so who makes them please?

Or if I am best binning it, which tubing and fittings would you recommend please?
 
No you have to purchase 7/16" fittings.

As for the fittings, Bitspower do a range but I can not post a link, sorry
 
Thanks but what about the issue of my thick wall tubing? Most 7/16" tubing have 10/16" OD. Is 11/16" going to mean the 7/16 fittings won't fit?
 
Hi mate. I'm using 7/16 tygon, and 1/2" barbs for my loop. The reason I did that was because it will be a very tight fit, so less chance of leaking, and no need to use any sort of clamps. You might want to do that if you can't find the right comp fittings
 
If the thickness of the tube wall is very thick then you will not get the outer collar over the pipe when its on the fitting.

You maybe better of dumping the pipe and going with 1/2" fittings with new pipe
 
11/16" Outer Tygon is usually 1/2" Inner. Sure you measured it right?

Is it Tygon R3603 tubing 19.1/12.7mm (1/2"ID)

So you need 19/13mm Compression fittings if you want to keep the tubing.

Aquatuning, Enzotech, Koolance, Primochill & Thermochill make compression fittings to fit.

However, I have not measured it and googling says this:

When you'll settle for nothing less than the best inside your liquid cooled rig, tubing by Tygon is what you're after. This R3603 7/16" Inner Diameter (11.1 mm), 11/16" Outer Diameter (17.4 mm) tubing has a wall thickness of 1/8 inch (3.175 mm). Because of its extra thickness, AAC00034 has a lesser tendency to retain memory of a bend over a longer period of time versus 1/16 inch wall tubing.

And it is a very tight fit on the 1/2" barbs and I needed to heat it up to get it fitted. I got it off somebody else who had a couple of metres spare after his build. Not seen it in the uk very often. I do remember it was sold as the extra thick tubing, not your normal thickness . Guess I ought to measure it tomorrow to be absolutely sure but 99% sure it's ID is 7/16".

It was lovely to build a loop with as it can be bent into very tight radius. Downside seems to be it's an oddball size for compression fittings :(

What would you recommend as a suitable replacement? Standard Tygon 1/2" id or 7/16" id and then get compression fittings to suit? Or another make of tubing?
 
I'd google "19/13mm compression" order one and see if it fits, its only a few quid. Why? Because it sounds like awesome tubing!

But thats just me, actually googling isn't that great to find them. The usual suspects have them in stock in good numbers.

Thats what I would do but thats just me :) Grab me on messenger or email trust if you can't find any.

I've got a bitspower black 7/16 compression fitting left over from a build you can have.
 
The sizing isnt as critical as people claim. I'm using a mix of 10/8mm and 11/8mm fittings with 11/8mm tubing. It's a tight fit, but it definitely works.

If you deffinately dont want to use barbs, you really need to know the size of the tube with compressions. Get some new Tygon you kow the dimensions of or try some Primochill Primoflex LRT. It's a great alternative to Tygon and comes in loads of colours as well as clear and has one of the best bend radius' of any hose.
