The obvious answer is 'becuase they are ****'.

These are either £3.41 or £1.50 each.

Are they good or are they £1.50 for a reason?

OEM compressions like that should be fine yes. I've used basic phobya ones before, including rotarys and had no issues. They just generally don't look as good.

Bitspower fittings for example cost a damn bomb but they look awesome.

Oh, for some things you should avoid oem fittings. Quick disconnects are an example. I had cheapo phobya quick disconnects that all leaked, even the replacements. Koolance QDCs however? No leaks, rock solid.
