I'm looking at getting some compression wear for running as I'm hopefully getting properly back into exercise this year, touchwood, after my car crash - I'm looking at a pair of Skins shorts at present.

Anyone able to recommend any? Any more importantly any good retailers (I know my size so online is good)?

Edit: Can't decide between the shorts/half tights.

I've got compression tights that I sometimes wear for running, or for recovery after a 10k or an HM, but I can't say I'm really convinced by the effectiveness.

I've got some Linebreak compression shorts and I've just ordered some Skins Half Running Tights from SportsShoes.com. The skins should work around £25+P&P after discount/cashback (via TopCashBack). 15% off finished last Sunday though.

I think the Linebreak shorts do help so things ache less after a longer run - I'm happy to admit that could be placebo. Will see what I think of the Skins, especially as I train for the Great North Run.

Same here.

I've got two pairs of Skins. The first are just the regular black Skins and I've used those for recovery for a while now. This winter I bought a pair of the Snow specific Skins, which I think the only real difference is they are a little warmer and the seams are in different places. I only wore them twice and they developed a small hole; I need to find out whether I can warranty them some how. The other annoying thing with both pairs is that they bobble up really quickly.

I bought a pair of compression tights by 2XU instead and they seem to be a lot better, I don't think I'd buy Skins again.

If they work as a placebo to enable my brain to convince itself that my legs can recover quicker then it's worthwhile I reckon.

My marathon runner mate bought some yesterday after seeing pretty much everyone wearing them when he ran Paris. I'll let you know how he gets on with them.

Ive always found them great for recovery.

I have Full tights and Shorts just above my knee. Both the real Skins brand.

Lol, a guy walked into our gym last night wearing full length skins and a vest....he looked a total male hen, and knew it. He said if anyone could pull it off in the gym he could.

That could be you dude.....don't be gay, wear man short/tracksters and hit the road...fo sho'!

^^ yep all for show when out exercising:cool: . Only use compression for recovery! :)

Maybe a dumb question, but what's the difference between these compression wear and your normal spandex base-layer type stuff? Or are they one and the same?

I've got a few baselayers, both shorts and tops (hot and cold). I wear them when cycling to keep me warm/cool depending on the whether and I find them pretty effective. I do wear them in the gym as well, but that's just because I ride to the gym so can't be arsed to change. Though I do wear a t-shirt and shorts over the top when in the gym so I'm not a spandex monkey!

If you read the guff, they're engineered to add pressure to certain parts of the body, eg muscles, to promote blood flow and what have you. Whether it works or not is arguably a placebo, although studies have been undertaken.
