Hey guys, today i passed my CompTIA A+ exam :). I was wondering (if anyone knows) if it ever expires? and if so; how much is the re-sit?

Thanks

Off topic question: I have a grpahics tablet + two monitors, the tablet spans across both... how can i focus it on one screen? (Windows 7)

I'm very certain the Comptia A+ expires now. I think it might be 3 years but by that time, I doubt you will need it again so there's no point renewing it.

my a+ tech dosen't have an expirey date but i do know they do a small exam to extend it when additional stuff comes out. i recently done my net+ exam and it does come with an expirey date

I got the A+ I and II , I don't think they expire, the material for the books will be renewed but that's it.

I have an MCP in XP and doing the Server2003 one (70-290), after that the plan is to do the CompTIA Network+.

All together these will give me a MCSE. If you are worried about your exams expiring , upgrade!
http://www.microsoft.com/learning/en/us/certification/mcse.aspx#certification1

I should have my MCSE in server 2003 this year, next year I'll get an MCSA, and then upgrade to Server 2008.

If you are at the beginning of the road in IT, A+ , Xp and Server 2003 is still what you need, Windows 7 and Sever 2008 are out there but very few companies changed to them.
Big companies still have Xp and Server 2003.

This will change in the next few years so keep upgrading....

They do expire NOW. If you done them some time ago (don't know the specific date) then it doesn't expire.

Not to sure about Microsoft ones.

found it myself: http://certification.comptia.org/getCertified/steps_to_certification/stayCertified.aspx

Effective January 1, 2011, all new CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+ certifications will be valid for three years from the date the candidate is certified. After three years, those certifications must be renewed.

Individuals certified in CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ or CompTIA Security+ on or before Dec. 31, 2010, will be considered certified for life. For individuals certified on or after Jan. 1, 2011, these certifications can be maintained by passing the most current CompTIA exam prior to the three-year expiration date or enrolling in CompTIA's new Continuing Education (CE) program. This initiative allows participants to keep skills and certifications current through a variety of activities that show an understanding of relevant industry knowledge.

===========================

so I'm certified for life on A+ I and II , and I'll have N+ for 3 years after I'll ge it it. Not a big deall really because they are entry level certifications and I plan to upgrade to MCSE/MCSA and they don't expire....

Check FAQ

Q. Does my MCSE certification expire?

A. Your certifications and specializations currently do not have an expiration date or what we call an inactive date. To find out more about the expiration and inactivation policies, read the Certification Lifespan – FAQ.

If you passed A+, N+ or S+ before xmas 2010 then it will not expire. If you passed after then it will expire after 3 years.

MS exams dont really expire but are only really valid as long as the software/technology is supported by MS.

I feel old now. I passed my A+ in 1998. Guess mine doesn't expire then? :D

As for Microsoft exams/certs yes they do expire. When they expire is up to the life cycle of the product you are certified in. Typically Microsoft will "drop" the exams for an older product and your certification for that product will remain valid for 12 or 24 months after that. You will be notified of all of this when it happens.

Comptia certs expire after 3 years now but you can keep it current with the CE (continuing education program) which you will automatically be enrolled on.
If you take another Comptia cert eg N+ then that will automatically renew your A+ for another 3 years and so on.
Anyone who took Comptia exams last year and earlier can also keep there certifications current by enrolling on the CE program.
There are essentially two different certs now for all intents and purposes.
The CE version Which means your cert is current and up to date.
and the old version, but there is nothing stopping anyone holding both types
