Am I correct in saying slim optical drives normally require either an adaptor (IDE drive to 40 Pin IDE) or special cable (SATA drive slim sata power+data to normal SATA power+data)?

If so does anybody know if the Compucase 8K01 comes with either of these?

Anyone own one and able to confirm if the PSU has the 4-pin power connector (EPS-12V thingy that first came with P4 CPUs) or needs a Molex-to-4Pin adapter? How many SATA, Molex, FDD power plugs?

The Compucase 8K01 does not come with any of these adaptors. It is a good-looking case which has a very noisy 1u HEC PSU. This can be sorted out by replacing the PSU with a fanless FSP120-50GNF (see https://www.shopfsp.com/fsp12050gnf-fanless/p/483.html). However, if the intention is to use the case with a LGA775 mini ITX motherboard, it would remain relatively noisy even with the fanless PSU, as there is very little breathing space for the CPU cooler which translates into increased noise.

Hi Beta, found your response to my questions on another forum last night....

I'll be using with Atom mobo. Prob a D945GCLF2 until Intel release the D945GSEJT or a dual core version of that!

This should be very quiet, if you use passive cpu cooling and the fanless FSP. If you need, however, to mount an exhaust fan, beware that it is a 60mm one and can be noisy.

Got a quiet 60mm. Wanna sell me your redundant FSP? ;)

BTW, how possible is chopping the case next to PSU to allow a single half height PCI card? Can you measure? My kit is over a week away!!

Well, I had a Silenx iXtrema IXP-34-16 rated at 16db and could still hear it, due to turbulence effects (if you want a 60mm fan to move any air, you need not less than 2000 rpm). About the FSP: Why not, have just sent you an e-mail.

If the half-height PCI card conforms to the specification height of 51.51 mm (http://www.pcisig.com/specifications/conventional/conventional_pci/lowp_ecn.pdf), it will fit inside the case, but it might be necessary to remove the filter fitted under the perforated section of the top. Cutting the back might be a bit awkward though, as you might need to eliminate or relocate one of the 3 screws holding the top in place.

Assembled my system with D945GCLF2.

Did not find the PSU noisy at all but the chipset fan on the mobo is annoying high pitched whine. Has to go. And my "quiet 60mm" fan from a competitor of OCUK was a bloody joke. Its on a par with an old Delta from my AXIA Athlon days!!!

To silence the system, I disconnected the chipset fan and the 60mm exhaust and attached a 120mm fan inside the case, above the chipset and processor heatsinks sucking air off and out. BIOS controls it to 50% speed and silence is restored.

Was rather funny having this low power system next to my towers making more noise than both my towers (which run 5v 120mm fans, temp controlled, noise insulation etc) which apart from HD noises are pretty much silent.

I have a question about this case you got - would it be possible to install Socket 775 mITX moboin it and stock Intel CPU cooler? Would there be enought space for it?
Another question - that PSU inside - is it 40mm high?

I did a build in this case a week or 2 ago, should fit the stock intel cooler I'd think. Will measue up the psu for you when i get home, but I'd say 40mm sounds about right, maybe just a couple more

great! Thanks! Can you also shoot some photos? of the case insides? I want to put Shuttle mobo in it and want to see if its long enough to do it...

There are a couple of photos of it in my thread. Had a quick measure of the PSU's depth, Id say its around 42mm high, bit hard to get an accurate measure with it still in my case, but just over 40mm.

Love the case, but the PSU fan is the only problem. Its not so loud really, but can hear it during silent/quiet sections of films. Im on the hunt for a quieter or possibly fanless one to replace it with but cant find one with all the connectors I need :( (most seem to be missing the 4pin ATX one)

Cool. Thanks for help.
One more thing - from yourpictures I cannot see that - can you tell me how much sapce takes the hdd? Is there a space below the hard drive?
Shuttle mobo is longer than mITX and will go a bit further towards front of the case - is there a sapce below the drive for mobo? This mobo is about 24cm long. As long as there is space below hdd - about 3cm, then mobo can go under the drive...
Can you please check this for me?
