Computer About To Die?

Hey guys I need to make this as quick and short as possible as my computer or rather my SSD is about to die I think! The rig is the Ultima Envy v2 which I purchased from here last year and everything has been fine up until today. Games have started running super slow and now there is a really horrible intermitted grinding/clunky noise coming from in the case. Also Windows is taking minutes to load up instead of a few seconds, can't view any documents etc as everything is so slow

Any way I can test just to be sure before I get hold of OcUK tomorrow?

Your SSD won't make noise.. :s

Get CrystalDiskInfo to check the SMART stats of HDD/SSD, it'll also warn you of any errors.

SeaTools for Windows and do a Long Disk Test.

What are your full system specs?

i5 4670k @4.5ghz
16 GB RAM
GTX 780
Windows 8
Samsung 250gb SSD
2tb normal hdd

Every time it makes the noise for a split second a little disc icon shows up next to the mouse cursor. Gonna open her up now and see if I can hear where the noise is coming from.

It's my CD/DVD drive going nuts :confused:

Shall I just unplug it? Slightly annoying as I installed it last summer, but I don't use it to be fair!

Ok... just taken the thing out completely and now everything is fine

What could have made it screw up and effect Windows like that?

unplug it and try,it could be slowing everything down if its failing/failed ect

just get a new one their cheap

I had this once on a new build.

I would bet you didn't plug the power cable for the CD drive in properly, t had wiggled free a biter something to that effect.

Think it's just died as it's been fine since I stuck it in last June.
